Studies

HIFI has strong capabilities as a research organization. In addition to an extensive print library, HIFI houses many original documents from industry meetings, depositions, and personal statements. HIFI uses these documents to create organized studies to promote system safety in industry and construction.

New Report!

Construction Design Safety in the Marketplace (2008)

A follow-up to "Analysis and Control of Crane and Aerial Lift Hazards", this report explores the function of safety features in construction and explains why they are naturally supported by the general marketplace. Detailed looks at facets of cost, design, and benefits are complimented by original flow charts and a breakthrough visual learning tool for construction managers and building firms.

Analysis and Control of Crane and Aerial Lift Hazards (2007)

Lift equipment hazards exposed! This in-depth study focuses on the five main hazards afflicting aerial equipment: powerline contact, overload, error provocative controls, blind zones, and inadequate access. Analysis includes a close examination of potential failure modes and detailed instructions on how to initiate multi-party collaboration to eliminate hazardous conditions.

Research Report Regarding Crane Safety

HIFI has released its research report "Safety Interventions to Control Hazards Related to Power Line Contacts by Mobile Cranes and Other Boomed Equipment."  The report was funded by the Center to Protect Workers' Rights, a focus group affiliated with NIOSH.

The report addresses hazards of crane safety relating to power line contact and contains 30 recommendations that eliminate or minimize hazards.  It has been peer reviewed by safety experts and utilized in the May 2004 crane standards discussions by the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee from OSHA.

The report is available on CD-ROM or hard copy.  To obtain the report, please contact HIFI or call us (520) 458-6700.
